Operation and Utilization
The international collaboration for the study of Quark-Gluon plasma is a part of two major collaborations for (i) the STAR experiment at RHIC, Brookhaven National Laboratory, New York and (ii) the ALICE experiment at LHC, CERN, Geneva. Our collaboration is responsible for the installation and maintenance of the Photon Multiplicity Detectors (PMD) for both the experiment and other major upgrades as and when required. The major aim is to conduct experiments, take data and perform analysis to understand the physics of ultra-relativistic nuclear collisions and study of the formation of Quark-Gluon plasma. RHIC complex is expected to run at least for five years and LHC will run for next ten years up to 2017. |
